Now Available as a Download: Creative Cue Cards Go Digital
If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know how much I love my Creative Cue Cards. They started as a printed product — professionally printed, tactile, satisfying to hold — and they’ve found their way into studios, classrooms and kitchen tables all over the place. So I’m really excited to share that they are now available as digital downloadable decks too.
Yep — you can purchase a deck today and be using it within minutes. No waiting for the post, no wondering if it’ll arrive in time. Just download, print, and create.
So, What Exactly Are Creative Cue Cards?
Creative Cue Cards are a simple but surprisingly powerful creative tool. Each deck gives you a set of prompt cards across four colour-coded categories:
- Purple — Shape cards
- Blue — Pattern cards
- Grey — Colour cards
- Pink — Extension cards
You pull a card from each category, combine them, and use the prompts to design and draw your artwork. The colour coding makes it intuitive — even for kids — and the combinations are genuinely endless. Using just two decks together, you can create over 90,000 different design outcomes. Every single session looks different.
All you need is paper and some coloured pencils. That’s it.
What Collections Are Available?
The range is organised into two main offerings.
Creative Cue Card Collections
These are themed decks — currently including Still Life, Abstract Faces and Geometric Abstract — each one designed around a specific creative direction. They’re perfect if you want a focused session with a clear visual theme. These themed decks are also interchangeable, meaning you can mix cards across decks to open up even more combinations.
The Universal Collection
If you want maximum versatility, the Universal Collection is for you. It brings together all the shape, pattern and colour cards from across the themed decks into one comprehensive set. You can build it gradually by purchasing individual category sets separately, or go all in and grab the complete Universal Deck at once. Either way, you end up with an incredibly flexible creative resource that grows with you.
Add-On Themed Decks
There are also themed Add-On Decks available, and I’ll be adding more over time. These are a great way to keep expanding your collection and introducing fresh prompts into your creative practice.
Why a Downloadable Version?
The honest answer? So many people asked for it. Teachers especially — being able to download a deck, print a class set, and use them in a lesson the very same week is just so much more practical than waiting on a delivery. And for home artists who want to try the cards before committing to a printed deck, or who just want to get started right now, the download option makes total sense.
The digital decks are every bit as detailed and colour coded as the printed versions. You can print them at home on card stock, have them printed at your local print shop, or even use them on a tablet if you prefer a screen-based creative session. They’re designed to be flexible.
Who Are They For?
Honestly, they’re for anyone who loves to create or wants to start. I designed them with both beginners and experienced artists in mind — the prompts are open-ended enough to work at any level. They’re great for:
- Art teachers looking for a ready-to-use classroom activity that covers composition, shape, pattern and colour
- Home artists who want a spark of direction without being told exactly what to make
- Primary school teachers needing a fast finisher activity or a fun, low-prep art lesson
- Anyone who finds the blank page a little daunting and needs a gentle nudge to get going
